Thompson claims Spartan Invitational title

The Thompson High School wrestling team claimed the Spartan Invitational team championship Dec. 17 at Mountain Brook High School.
The Warriors racked up 637.5 points, which placed Thompson 60 points ahead of second-place finisher Vestavia Hills.
Oak Mountain came in fifth overall in team standings. Spain Park finished ninth overall. Calera came in 16th in team standings.
Six Warriors won their individual weight divisions in the Spartan Invitational.
Austin Gould of Thompson claimed the 113-pound title. Gould earned a 2-0 decision over Hayden Hill of Vestavia Hills in the championship match.
Mario Haynes of Thompson claimed the 126-pound championship. Haynes earned a 7-2 decision over Peter Baus of Locust Grove in the title match.
Brewer Gilliland of Thompson won the 132-pound title. Gilliland earned a 4-2 decision over Haden Ryals of Southside in the championship match.
Nick Hall of Thompson claimed the 145-pound championship. Hall earned a 15-6 major decision over Kade Kitchens of Southside in the title match.
John Austin (J.A.) Jones of Thompson earned the 152-pound title. Jones pinned Sam Bridell of Mountain Brook in the championship match.
Josh Gillaspie of Thompson won the 160-pound championship. Gillaspie earned a 9-0 major decision over Jack Nelson of Vestavia Hills in the title match.
Conner Gilson of Thompson finished runner-up in the 106-pound division. Gilson dropped a 4-3 decision to John David (J.D.) Peden of Oak Mountain in the championship match.
Peden was one of three Oak Mountain wrestlers to claim individual championships in the Spartan Invitational.
Peden won the 106-pound championship.
Vincent Kimbrough of Oak Mountain claimed the 170-pound title. Kimbrough pinned Chase Mathews of Southside in the title match.
Justin Woodall of Oak Mountain earned a 9-0 major decision over Kameron Ricks of Spain Park in the 195-pound championship match.
Evan Webb of Oak Mountain finished runner-up in the 182-pound division. Webb dropped a 10-6 decision to Zach Malone of Vestavia Hills in the title match.
Christopher Richmond of Oak Mountain finished runner-up in the 220-pound division. Richmond dropped a 5-2 decision to Mo Mills of Spain Park in the championship match.
Spain Park finished with one champion and two runner-ups.
Mills claimed the 220-pound title. Ricks finished runner-up in the 195-pound division.
Tommy Bostany of Spain Park finished runner-up in the 120-pound division. Bostany dropped a 8-6 decision to Jacob Smith of Pell City in the title match.
Danny Diaz led Calera after finishing third overall in the 220-pound weight division. Diaz dropped a 2-1 decision to Richmond before earned a 16-0 technical fall over B. Busby of Hewitt-Trussville in the consolation match.
