Chargers defeat Kingwood Christian

The Cornerstone Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Kingwood Christian 36-27 in high school basketball action Dec. 5.

Destiny Dillard led the Chargers with 14 points in the victory. Savannah Upton added 12 points.

Madelyn Pearce led Kingwood Christian with 12 points.

Blair Holsombeck added seven points. Casey Whitmer chipped in six points. Katie Etheridge contributed two points.

BOYS

The Cornerstone Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated Kingwood Christian 53-45 in high school basketball action Dec. 5.

Demetrouse Conwell led the Chargers with 16 points in the victory. B.J. Smith and Kendall Moore finished with 11 points.

Josh Purvis led the Lions with 10 points. Andrew Whitfield and Jordan Vance added nine points each. Jacob Bussey chipped in eight points. Daniel Fillingim contributed seven points.

The Chargers overcame a 33-27 deficit at the end of the third quarter in the victory.

“It’s a good rivalry between these two schools,” said Cornerstone Christian coach Tim Smith. “We must start shooting the ball better, especially from the free-throw line. Right now, our defense is saving us. Our strength may be our depth off the bench.”
