Falcons dominate Brevard in conference Challenge

The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team continued its hot start Nov. 12 at the Peach Belt Conference/South Atlantic Conference Challenge as the Falcons downed Brevard College 83-40.
The Falcons (2-0) were once again led by senior D.J. Rivera as he had 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Junior Drico Hightower was not far behind with 17 points off the bench as he hit 7-of-8 from the floor.
Senior Jervan Jackson chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds, while junior Marvin Fitzgerald added 11 points and four rebounds. Junior Jeff Hefner led the team in rebounding with eight.
Montevallo once again dominated in the paint and on the fast break. The Falcons outscored BC 46-10 in the paint and 18-0 on fast breaks. The Falcons took advantage of almost every Brevard turnover as they scored 30 points off the Tornadoes mistakes.
Montevallo hit 57.6 percent of its shots while holding Brevard to just 34.8 percent shooting. The Falcons once again struggled from three-point range as they hit just 23.1 percent from downtown.
The teams combined for just 20 free throws and 24 fouls. Montevallo hit 80.0 percent of its shots from the charity stripe while Brevard hit 60.0 percent.
The Falcons opened the game with a 32-11 run as they dismantled the Tornado defense. The first half would end with the Falcons in firm control of the lead 42-19.
The second half was much like the first as Montevallo outscored Brevard 41-21 in the period taking a 83-40 victory.
The Falcons will return to Wednesday, Nov. 16 as they travel to the University of West Florida for a 7 p.m. tip.
