Montevallo women’s golf team competes in Flagler Fall Slam

The University of Montevallo women’s golf team traveled to St. Augustine, Florida to compete at the Flagler Fall Slam tournament Oct. 25.

The Falcons finished 17th in the 20-team field, which featured four teams ranked in the top 25 of the Golf World/NGCA Division II poll. The Falcons finished with a two-round score of 691, which was just two strokes out of a tie for 15th.

Freshman Ashlee Beck led the Falcons with a score of 165, which tied her for 45th overall.

Sophomore Tracey Marshall placed second for the Falcons and 77th overall with a score of 175. Senior Emma Breen was just one stroke back at 176 and placed 78th overall.

Freshman Megan Clyne had a score of 178 and finished tied for 82nd. Sophomore Hilary Shaner rounded out the Falcons top five as she shot a 181 good for 87th overall.

Junior Kayla Witt played as an individual and finished in 98th place with a 198.

Lynn won the tournament with a team score of 617. Carson-Newman finished second and Barry finished third. The biggest surprise of the tournament other then Lynn taking home the victory was Saint Leo finishing in sixth place.

Five Peach Belt Conference teams competed at the event, including Montevallo. Flagler led all Peach Belt Conference teams with a fifth-place finish. Columbus State finished ninth, Armstrong finished 10th, Montevallo finished 17th and North Georgia finished 18th.

The tournament wraps up the fall portion of the Falcons’ schedule. Montevallo will return to action in February as it begins preparation for the spring portion of its schedule.
