Seven apply for open Hoover BOE seat

HOOVER — Seven Hoover residents have applied to fill a vacant seat on the Hoover Board of Education.
The seven applicants are:
— Khristi Doss Driver, an attorney with Haskell, Slaughter, Young & Rediker. Driver is an active trustee with the Hoover Chamber of Commerce.
— Richard Sean Hart, a district manager with the Learning Care Group. Hart is a trustee with the Hoover Chamber of Commerce.
— Reginald L. Jeter, an attorney with Haskell, Slaughter, Young & Rediker. Jeter is on the Junior Board Council of the Alabama/Gulf Coast Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
— David Luke, a pastor with the North Alabama United Methodist Church. Luke is on the Hoover Beautification Board.
— Derrick Murphy, a project engineer with the Birmingham Water Works Board. Murphy is on the Hoover Board of Zoning Adjustments.
— Dr. Edmund P. Segner Jr., a retired professor and chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UAB. Segner is a member of the executive board of directors of the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
— Shane Clark Street, an associate professor of chemistry at the University of Alabama. Street is a youth soccer coach and is on the advisory board of Black Warrior Riverkeeper, an environmental advocacy group.
The Hoover City Council will appoint a new board member after Dr. Ronald Braswell vacated his seat Oct. 1.
An appointment for the empty seat could be made at the council’s Nov. 7 meeting.
