Falcons finish second at Montevallo Intercollegiate

University of Montevallo freshman Ashlee Beck led the Falcons to a second-place finish at the Full Moon Bar-B-Que Montevallo Intercollegiate tournament Oct. 4 at Timberline Golf Club in Calera.

Beck shot a two-round score of 152 to finish first in the field of 24 teams. Beck sat in second after the first round, but was able to catch the leader and eventually win the tournament by two strokes. As a team, the Falcons finished just three strokes behind Columbus State University, which won the tournament.

Freshman Megan Clyne finished second for the Falcons and tied for third overall as she shot a 157. Sophomore Hilary Shaner finished third for the Falcons and fifth overall, but unfortuantly she was playing as an individual and her score did not count towards the team standings. Shaner finished with a 160.

Senior Emma Breen finished fourth for the Falcons and tied for ninth overall with a score of 164. Sophomore Tracey Marshall rounded out the top-five as she finished 12th overall with a score of 167.

Junior Kaylee Hale finished sixth on the team and 14th overall with a 173. The final two Montevallo golfers were junior Kayla Witt and sophomore Kira Chaudrey, a Shelby County graduate, who finished 15th and tied for 17th, respectively.

Columbus State won the tournament, followed by Montevallo. North Georgia College and State University finished third and Christian Brothers University rounded out the field in fourth.

The University of Montevallo men’s golf team hosted the Full Moon Bar-B-Que Montevallo Intercollegiate tournament Oct. 4 at Timberline Golf Club in Calera.

The Falcons split into two squads to compete in the event and finished third and fifth, respectively, in the six-team field.

Junior Andrew Lowery led the Falcons, finishing third overall with a two-round score of 1-over par 143.

Sophomore Joe Haupt finished tied for 10th overall with a score of 149, while senior Aaron Ebert rounded out the top-three with a 15th-place finish with a score of 152.

The final two golfers on the Falcons’ third-place finishing team were junior Mariano Lepori and freshman Andres Morales, who finished tied for 21st and tied for 29th, respectively.

For the fifth-place Montevallo squad, senior Gonzalo Gambertoglio led the way as he tied for 16th overall with a score of 154. Freshman Jared Ebert and senior Ruwaldt Viljoen were just four strokes back as they tied for 23rd overall.

The final Montevallo golfer was junior Austin Murphey, who finished tied for 27th.

North Georgia College and State University won the event with a team score of 578. Catawba College finished second with a 592, while Montevallo finished third with a 601.

Wilson McDonald of the University of Alabama at Birmingham won the event with a five-under par 137.
