COLUMBIANA – The Columbiana Police Department is getting some new body armor, and it isn’t costing the city a dime.
The department has been awarded a grant from the Alabama Fraternal Order of Police to receive eight bulletproof vests through Gulf State Distributors.
The City Council adopted a resolution to accept the vests, at no cost to the city, during its regular meeting Oct. 4 at City Hall.
In other actions from the meeting, the council:
-Reappointed Joyce Etress to the Columbiana Beautification Board with a term to expire in October 2014.
-Appointed Dale Roe to fill the expired term of Diane Moore, and appointed Helen Phillips to fill the expired term of Jan Beane on the Beautification Board, with the new terms to expire in October 2014.
-Adopted a resolution to enter into a contract with The Shelby County Reporter to print and distribute the city’s newsletter.
