Sheriff’s office awaiting toxicology report in death investigation of Sterrett woman

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting results of a toxicology report to help determine how a woman died last week.
Shelby County 911 received a call Sept. 21 at about 11:40 p.m. regarding an unresponsive female at a residence in the 7000 block of Shelby County 51 in Sterrett, according to a press release issued today.
Regional Paramedic Service, the Westover Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies responded to the home to offer assistance, according to the release. The woman, 49-year-old Sonya S. Derossett, died the next day at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.
Investigators are reviewing the death, and an autopsy has been conducted, with results pending the return of the toxicology report.
“Sheriff Curry would like to express his sincere condolences to Derossett’s family and friends,” the press release read.
