Hornets win Calera Invitational

The Chelsea High School volleyball team won five matches on its way to the Calera Invitational championship Aug. 27.
The Hornets defeated host Calera 28-26, 25-14 in the championship match.
Samantha Colyer, who was named the tournament’s most valuable player, led Chelsea with five kills in the championship match.
Jesse Vohler finished with a team-high 10 digs, while Kacie Craft recorded nine digs. Courtney Campbell registered a team-high eight assists.
Holly Marbut, Vohler and Campbell were each named to the all-tournament team.
The Hornets defeated Minor 25-4, 25-14 in the semifinals.
Colyer led Chelsea with eight kills. Marbut finished with eight digs. Emma Cotney recorded four service aces. Campbell registered a team-high six assists.
Chelsea defeated Hueytown 25-13, 14-25, 15-13 in a pool play match.
Colyer finished with eight kills in the victory. Rachel Stefkovich finished with three service aces. Campbell recorded 13 assists.
The Hornets topped Shades Mountain Christian 25-15, 25-7 in a pool play match.
Campbell finished with three service aces and five assists in the win. Marbut recorded four service aces. Vohler registered a team-high eight assists.
Chelsea opened the tournament with a 25-18, 25-14 win over Jemison.
Marbut recorded five kills and seven service aces in the win. Vohler registered a team-high seven assists.
