Willis D. Moore Jr., age 87, a resident of Chelsea, passed away on July 19, 2011. Mr. Moore was born May 19, 1924 in Hargett, KY. He resided most of his life in Alabama.
He was an U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He served two years in the Pacific Theatre with the Army 10th Corps. He was in the occupational Army in Japan when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
He was a distributor for the Aluminum Company of America for approximately 20 years, and then dealt mostly in sales and real estate. Mr. Moore donated his services to Meals on Wheels for approximately 19 years of which he greatly enjoyed. He received many awards and made lifetime friends.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, Willis Sr., and Lillian Moore; two brothers, Lavon and Herman Moore; one son, Ronald L. Moore; and one daughter, Teri Moore Breitinger.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dana H. Moore; son, Michael W. Moore (Devida); daughter, Patricia Gail Moore; daughter-in-law, Pamela Bearden; son-in-law, Thomas L. Breitinger; grandchildren, Davicia Morgan (Erik), Keith, Kyle, Cayla and Kelsey Moore; sisters, Betty Perkins of Sylacauga and Earlene Moore of Chelsea; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2011, at Bolton Funeral Home with Rev. Lauren Sutton of Opelika and Chaplin Jim Clifford of Amedisys Hospice presiding. Burial will follow in K-Springs Cemetery, Chelsea. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service at Bolton Funeral Home.
