Chelsea High School senior Jake Ganus will join Briarwood Christian School quarterback Ben Craft, a close friend from a rival school, on the UAB football team in 2012 after making a verbal commitment July 14 to play for the Blazers.
Craft made a verbal commitment to UAB on July 11.
Ganus, a standout quarterback and safety for the Hornets, will likely play on the defensive side of the ball at UAB. Ganus chose the Blazers over Southern Miss. He also received interest from Air Force, Navy and Georgia State during the recruiting process.
Ganus, who accounted for 2,632 yards and 26 touchdowns as a junior, becomes the third Shelby County player to make a commitment in the Class of 2012.
Spain Park High School safety Justin Carter committed to play college football at Rice in April.
