Joe and Karen Smith of Springville are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura, to Andrew Lafferty of Chelsea.

Laura is the granddaughter of Ralph and Sharon Scott of Birmingham and Joe and Mary Smith of Birmingham. She graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School in 2007. She is currently attending the University of Alabama, and will major in elementary education.

Andrew is the son of Phillip and Cindy Lafferty. He is the grandson of Mr. Jan Kerrebyn and the late Eveline Kerrebyn of Tampa, Fla., and the late Dr. and Mrs. Wayne Lafferty of Tampa, Fla. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 2004. Andrew graduated from Auburn University with a degree in economics, and is currently employed by BBVA Compass.

The wedding will take place August 12, 2011.
