CALERA — A Calera woman was found murdered in the 400 block of Milstead Road on Saturday afternoon and an ex-boyfriend has been taken into custody and charged with the crime.

Calera Police on Saturday at about 1 p.m. responded to a death investigation and quickly determined Wendy Marie Thompson, 36, had been murdered, said a press release issued Tuesday evening by Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley.

The suspect, Terry Griggs, Thompson’s ex-boyfriend, was taken into custody on Sunday, June 5, in Orange Beach by the Orange Beach Police Department.

Calera investigators transported Griggs, 58, of Thompson Station, Tenn., back to Calera. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail with a $1 million bond.
