A Birmingham man is in custody after allegedly burglarizing a home this morning.
Shelby County 911 at about 10 a.m. today received a call from the 1100 block of U.S. Highway 31, where a man reported returning home and surprising a burglar inside his residence.
Derico Montez Jones, 24, was later arrested by Calera Police on Anglewood Lane, where an officer had stopped the suspect’s vehicle based on a description provided by the homeowner.
Jones was arrested on a warrant for receiving stolen property and is being held on $10,000 bond at the Shelby County Jail. Sheriff’s investigators are working the case, and additional warrants are expected.
Curry thanked the men and women of the Calera Police and sheriff’s departments.
“I am very fortunate to be surrounded by some of the finest men and women I have every known, who are willing to risk all if necessary in the service of this office,” Curry said in a prepared statement through a press release.
