Lions finish runner-up at sub-state golf tournament

The Briarwood Christian School boys’ golf team finished runner-up in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A sub-state tournament May 2.
Briarwood Christian, which carded a team total of 298 strokes, finished 10 strokes behind defending Class 5A champion St. Paul’s.
The Lions are one of six teams that will compete in the Class 5A state tournament next week at Magnolia Grove in Mobile.
Seventh-grader Banks Nash led Briarwood Christian in the sub-state tournament with his 1-under par 71.
Brent Gilbert and Trevor Page each shot a 3-over par 75. Connor Smith fired a 5-over par 77 in the sub-state tournament.
Chelsea’s Tyler Shope also qualified for the Class 5A state tournament as an individual after carding a 2-under par 70 in the sub-state tournament.
