Thousands without power in Shelby County

COLUMBIANA — Alabama Power officials said at 4 p.m. today 316,679 of its customers remain without power in the state.
That’s down from 412,229, who were without power at the peak of storms on Wednesday night.
Officials said those numbers compare to 404,000 outages caused by the Blizzard of 1993 and 239,000 outages resulting from Hurricane Frederic.
At 4 p.m. today, 145,535 remained without power in Jefferson and Shelby counties.
Officials said Alabama Power crews, along with crews from other states, worked overnight to restore power where such was possible. Additional crews from as far away as Illinois, Ohio, Florida, Kansas and Kentucky continued working today to restore power.
Alabama Power officials said total workforce in the state working to restore power is 2,600.
Alabama Power officials said they would release more information about its restoration efforts after crews were able to conduct a full inspection and evaluation of damage.
