Chelsea High School graduate Devin A. Bryant passed away in a car accident April 20. Bryant, 20, graduated from Chelsea in 2008, and was a junior at the University of Alabama studying international Spanish, his mother, Andrea Bryant said.

“He volunteered with the Humane Society in Columbiana and also in Tuscaloosa,” Andrea said. “He planned to go to the University of Oklahoma to study weather and be a meteorologist. He had a fulfilling life.

“He enjoyed swimming, boating and camping, and liked to write poetry,” she added. “He was very intelligent. If he was interested in a topic, he would go back and research it as far as it would go.”

Devin passed away after a car accident south of Tuscaloosa on April 20.

“He was in a car accident just below Tuscaloosa. He left the road, and no one knows what happened,” Andrea said. “He hit a tree from the right rear side and wrapped around a tree. He was alive long enough for us to say goodbye to him.”

He is survived by his parents, Neil and Andrea Bryant of Chelsea; grandmother, Marie Bryant of Chelsea; best friend, Kenji Mau and family; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.

His memorial service will be at Hepzibah Baptist Church, 20512 Hepzibah Church Road, McCalla, on Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m. with Cahaba Memorial Funeral directing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making donations to T-Town Paws, an animal welfare and pet rescue organization in Tuscaloosa. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service and can also be mailed to T-Town Paws, 1108 38th Street, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401
