Coosa Valley claims region championship

The Coosa Valley Academy baseball team captured the Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A, Region 2 championship April 18 with a sweep of Sumter Academy.
The Rebels won the opener 9-2.
Garrett McMillan led Coosa Valley (34-4 overall, 8-1 in AISA Class 1A, Region 2) at the plate as he finished with two hits and drove in a run.
John Bullen and Saxon Grimes finished with a hit and drove in one run each. Stephen Cryer had a hit in the win.
Jarrod Mims gave up one earned run on five hits with a strikeout in three innings on the mound. Hunter Roe allowed two hits with six strikeouts in four innings.
Coosa Valley defeated Sumter Academy 15-2 in the nightcap.
Mims led the Rebels at the plate as he finished with two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs in the victory.
Roe finished with two hits, including a triple. Bullen finished with two hits and drove in two runs. Hunter Winslett had a double and drove in a run. Cryer finished with a hit and drove in a run.
Myles Varner, Cody Wood and McMillan finished with one hit each.
Daniel Kennedy earned the win on the mound after giving up one earned run on one hit with six strikeouts in four innings.
Bates struck out two batters in one inning in relief.
