Pelham sweeps tennis titles

The Pelham High School boys’ tennis team swept the singles’ and doubles’ championship matches on its way to capturing the Shelby County tournament championship April 15-16.
The Panthers, who racked up 41 points in the tournament, won four championship matches in the tournament.
Jim Flaniken of Pelham captured the No. 1 singles’ championship. Flaniken teamed with Trevor Tucker to win the No. 1 doubles’ title.
Jacob Dolinger of Pelham won the No. 5 singles’ championship. Dolinger teamed with Anthony DeLeonard to capture the No. 3 doubles’ title.
Briarwood Christian finished second in team standings with 33 points.
Taylor Brewton of Briarwood Christian captured the No. 3 singles’ title. The Lions’ Russell Hancock won the No. 4 singles’ championship.
The Westminster School at Oak Mountain finished third in team standings with 25 points. The Knights’ Adam Gurley won the No. 2 singles’ championship.
Oak Mountain finished fifth in team standings with 24 points.
Andriy Naavhust of Oak Mountain captured the No. 6 singles’ championship. The Eagles’ Thomas Mason and Jake Marinelli won the No. 2 doubles’ title.
