Eagles sweep Holt in softball doubleheader

The Calera High School softball team swept Holt in a high school softball doubleheader April 12.

The Eagles (5-10) defeated Holt in the opener 24-3.

Skyler Laird led Calera as she finished 3-for-3 at the plate. Laird drove in one run and scored four runs in the victory.

Jocelyn Davis, who drove in five runs and scored two runs, finished 2-for-2 with a triple and a double. Hayley Merritt, who drove in one run and scored three runs, went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple.

Shelby Clark, who drove in four runs and scored three runs, finished 1-for-2 with a double. Katie Eiland, who drove in three runs and scored two runs, went 1-for-4 at the plate. Brittany Files, who drove in two runs and scored three runs, finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Morgan Tate, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Lindsay Hammac drove in one run and scored one run in the victory. Anna Seabury scored two runs. Somer Roberson and Kymber McGiboney scored one run each.

Eiland earned the win in the circle after giving up two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks in a three-inning complete game.

Calera defeated Holt 17-2 in the nightcap.

Roberson finished 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in four runs in the victory.

Samantha Smith, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 1-for-1 with a double. Laird, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, finished 1-for-1 at the plate. Hammac, who drove in one run and scored two runs, went 1-for-1 at the plate.

Tate finished 1-for-3 and scored a run. McGiboney, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 1-for-1 at the plate. Seabury finished 1-for-1 at the plate and drove in two runs.

Clark, who drove in one run, and Merritt scored two runs each in the victory. Davis drove in one run and scored one run. Amber Sherman drove in one run and scored two runs. Eiland and Taylor White scored one run each.

Roberson earned the win in the circle after giving up two earned runs with five strikeouts and five walks in a three-inning complete game.
