Montevallo splits doubleheader in Calera Invitational

The Montevallo High School softball team split a doubleheader March 4 against Fultondale and Marbury in the Calera Invitational.
The Bulldogs (2-2) defeated Fultondale 8-3 in the tournament.
Montevallo scored in each inning of the opening game of the Eagle Invitational at Calera, pushing across three runs in the fifth inning on the strength of a pair of walks and back-to-back singles by Kaley Kornegay and Bekah Fowler.
Fowler and Savannah Smith led the Bulldogs at the plate with two hits apiece.
Savannah Upton went the distance in the circle, giving up just three earned runs while striking out five and walking four batters.
Montevallo fell to Marbury 14-4.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, with the big blow coming on a three-run home run by Mallory Anderson. However, Montevallo committed seven fielding errors in the losing effort.
Upton had two hits in the game. Destiny Upton added two hits and pitched a complete game in taking the loss after striking out two and walking four.
