Oak Mountain finishes runner-up at Lakeshore Shootout

The Oak Mountain High School girls’ soccer team finished runner-up at the Lakeshore Shootout tournament Feb. 26.
The Eagles (7-1) defeated defending Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A champion Spain Park 4-1 in the Lakeshore Shootout semifinals to reach the championship game. Oak Mountain fell to Harrison (Ga.) High School 1-0 in overtime in the title game.
Oak Mountain scored two goals in each half to defeat the Jaguars.
Bailee Harnett scored the Eagles’ first goal in the fifth minute. Vicki Hill scored a goal off an assist from Harnett in the 20th minute to give Oak Mountain a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Greer Maddox scored Oak Mountain’s third goal off an assist by Harnett in the 50th minute to push the Eagles’ lead to 3-0. Toni Payne scored the final goal, unassisted, in the 60th minute of the contest.
Oak Mountain goalkeeper Jill Hester finished with two saves.
The Eagles played to a 0-0 tie against Harrison (Ga.) in regulation before falling in overtime. Hester registered three saves in the Lakeshore Shootout championship game.
Harnett was named the Lakeshore Shootout’s most valuable player. Payne, Haley Gerken and Katie West of Oak Mountain were each named to the all-tournament team.
Oak Mountain edged Bob Jones 2-1 in its final pool play match Feb. 26.
Payne and Harnett scored one goal each for the Eagles. Greer Maddox assisted on each goal.
Hester finished with two saves.
