The Shelby County High School wrestling team finished 10th overall in team standings in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A section meet Feb. 12 at Tallassee High School.

The Wildcats, who racked up 31 points in the section meet, didn’t have any wrestlers qualify for the Class 5A state tournament.

Three Shelby County wrestlers reached the consolation semifinal round at the section meet.

Senior Nathan Herrington advanced to the consolation semifinals in the 140-pound weight division.

After being pinned by Rhys Murphy of Tallassee in 2:39 in the opening round at the section meet, Herrington won three consecutive matches before being pinned by Cody Price of Brookwood in 2:02 in the consolation semifinals. Herrington finished the season with a 17-13 record in individual matches.

Senior Jeffrey Hughes advanced to the consolation semifinals in the 152-pound weight division.

After receiving a bye in the first round at the section meet, Hughes was pinned by Aaron Sizemore of McAdory in 3:32 in the championship quarterfinals. Hughes responded by winning two consecutive matches before being pinned by Drew Baker of Tallassee in 5:56 in the consolation semifinals. Hughes finished the season with a 12-8 record in individual matches.

Sophomore heavyweight Jacob Oliver advanced to the consolation semifinals.

After receiving a bye in the first round at the section meet, Oliver dropped a 14-9 decision to Marcus Dawson of Hueytown in the championship quarterfinals. Oliver responded by winning two consecutive matches before being pinned by Matt Thomas of Chilton County in 3:35 in the consolation semifinals. Oliver finished the season with a 15-14 record in individual matches.
