The Coosa Valley Academy girls’ basketball team defeated Cornerstone Christian School 50-40 in the Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A, Region 2 — Area 1 tournament championship game Jan. 29.

The Rebels and the Chargers each advanced to an AISA Class 1A region tournament next month.

Lauren Archer led Coosa Valley (15-2) with 19 points. Archer also grabbed a team-high 17 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Kaylan Rich also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Jordan Smiley contributed eight points and 13 rebounds.

Jana Kelbie Armstrong led Cornerstone Christian (6-12) with 19 points.

Kailey Goodwin chipped in 16 points in the defeat.
