Vincent edges Holy Family in area contest

The Vincent High School boys’ basketball team inched closer to a regular season area championship following a 70-64 win over Holy Family Catholic in a Class 2A, Area 10 contest Jan. 21.
Bruce Hamilton led the Yellow Jackets (18-6 overall, 6-1 in Class 2A, Area 10) with 20 points. Hamilton, who also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double, recorded five steals, two assists and two blocked shots.
Dontravious Moon added 16 points, five steals, three rebounds and three assists. Keyon Wallace contributed 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot. Ben McKinney finished with 10 points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Vincent took a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter. With 1:40 left in the game, Holy Family cut the lead down to two points. A 3-pointer by Hamilton and two free throws by Moon with 26 seconds left sealed the win.
McKinney made a free throw with 16 seconds left and Austin Davis grabbed a rebound and made a free throw with six seconds left close out the game.
GIRLS
The Vincent High School girls’ basketball team defeated Holy Family 38-24 in a Class 2A, Area 10 contest Jan. 21.
Kiara Cohill led the Yellow Jackets (9-14 overall, 6-1 in Class 2A, Area 10) with 17 points. Cohill, who also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double, recorded three steals.
Brooklyn Jones added 13 points and three steals in the victory.
