Warriors win two matches at Cleveland Duals

The Thompson High School wrestling team won two matches at the Cleveland Duals on Dec. 10-11 at Cleveland, Tenn.
The Warriors defeated Independence and Walker Valley at the dual meet. Thompson dropped matches against Woodland and Collins Hill.
Nine Thompson wrestlers won their individual matches in the Warriors’ 40-20 win over Independence.
Conner Gilson, Austin Gould, Demario Haynes, Brewer Gilliland, John Austin (J.A.) Jones, Nick Hall, Jesse Masters, Jimmy Miller and David Capers each recorded victories.
Ten Warriors won their individual matches in a 56-17 win over Walker Valley, including Conner Gilson, Matthew Gilson, Gould, Gilliland, Cody Albarado, Jones, Hall, Stanton Costes, Masters and Miller.
Seven Thompson wrestlers picked up individual wins in a 35-31 loss to Woodland. Conner Gilson, Albarado, Jones, Hall, Masters, Miller and Capers.
Three Thompson wrestlers earned individual wins in the Warriors’ 61-15 loss to Collins Hill. Jones, Hall and Masters each recorded victories.
In addition to the Cleveland Duals, other Thompson wrestlers competed in the Swede Umbach Tournament at Auburn. The Warriors finished 11th overall in team standings with 39.5 points.
Tallassee won the tournament with a team total of 134 points.
Brandon Belser led the group of Thompson wrestlers as he finished second in the 112-pound weight division. Belser won his first three matches before being pinned by Josh Epperson of Tallassee in the 112-pound final.
Clay Anthony also won three matches at the tournament before dropping his consolation semifinal match.
