Shelby County wrestlers win opening matches

The Shelby County High School wrestling team won two matches Nov. 30 in its season-opening Shelby County Duals.
The Wildcats defeated Chelsea 45-24 and picked up a 48-24 win over the Alabama School for the Blind.
Six Shelby County wrestlers picked up two wins in the opening meet of the season, including Jonathon Perrine, Nathan Herrington, Justin Abbott and Chase Weeks.
Perrine picked up a 6-2 decision over Chelsea’s Chandler Wood in the 135-pound match. Herrington pinned the Hornets’ Michael Early in 1:11 in the 140-pound match.
Abbott pinned Chelsea’s Hunter Needham in 1:29 in the 160-pound match. Weeks pinned Chelsea’s Damian Tinney in 1:29 in 152-pound action.
Jacob Oliver pinned the Hornets’ David Downard in 1:29 in the heavyweight match.
Two Chelsea wrestlers defeated their Shelby County opponents.
The Hornets’ Michael Waller pinned Noah Dorough in the 103-pound match. John Dowd of Chelsea pinned the Wildcats’ Austin Poe in 49 seconds in 145-pound action.
Perrine pinned his Alabama School for the Blind foe in 1:31 in his 135-pound match. Herrington pinned his ASD foe in 1:16 in the 140-pound match.
Weeks earned a pin in 1:50 in his 152-pound match against his Alabama School for the Blind opponent. Abbott pinned his ASD foe in 1:37 in the 160-pound match.
Poe picked up a pin in 1:33 against his ASD opponent in the 145-pound match. Donnie Brechin earned a pin in 1:19 in the 215-pound match.
