NORTH SHELBY — Move over, Rudolph. Santa Claus will get a new ride Dec. 18.

That day, the Cahaba Valley Fire Department will drive Santa Claus around different neighborhoods for North Shelby families to see.

Cmdr. Grant Wilkinson said the fire department is looking forward to carrying on the tradition of driving Santa around.

“This is our way of letting our kids see Santa,” he said. “They always love to see Santa Claus come by, and we like to see their smiles. We’ve been doing it for about 20 years now.”

Although there’s only one Santa, he will have two routes to follow “through the magic of Santa,” Wilkinson said. One route will go from the north end of the fire district to the central part, and the other route will go from the center of the district to the southern end.

The routes will both start at 8 a.m. and will end around 4:30 p.m.
