High school basketball roundup: Jaguars pick up road win at Gadsden City

GIRLS

The Spain Park High School girls’ basketball team overcame an early deficit to pick up a 39-36 win over Gadsden City on the road Nov. 16.

Spain Park trailed 12-7 after the opening quarter before outscoring the host Titans 32-24 the rest of the way to seal the win.

Jessica Freeman led the Jaguars (2-0) with 12 points.

Thompson defeats McAdory

Thompson High School improved to 2-0 with a 67-32 win over visiting McAdory in girls’ basketball action Nov. 16.

KaDeisha Stowes led the Warriors with 15 points. Stowes added a team-high eight rebounds.

Rachel Lawley added 14 points, four steals and three rebounds.

Chelsea Taylor chipped in 10 points and five boards.

Eagles pound Tuscaloosa County

Oak Mountain High School held Tuscaloosa County to single digits in all four quarters as the Eagles picked up a 51-21 win on the road Nov. 16 in girls’ basketball action.

Lay Watts led the Eagles (4-0) with 14 points. Watts also grabbed seven rebounds and recorded four steals.

Julia Ferguson added 10 points and four rebounds for Oak Mountain, which recorded 16 steals in the win.

Briarwood falls to Altamont

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team fell 54-50 on the road Nov. 16 at Altamont.

Anna Handlin led the Lions (2-2) with 15 points. Cara Medders added 10 points.

Montevallo wins season opener against Dallas County

The Montevallo High School girls’ basketball team opened its season Nov. 16. with a 68-44 win over visiting Dallas County.

Amber Cardwell led the Bulldogs (1-0) with 29 points. Cardwell also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Savannah Upton added 12 points in the victory.

Vincent wins season opener at Victory Christian

The Vincent High School girls’ baskeball team opened its season Nov. 16 with a 68-13 win on the road at Victory Christian in a Class 2A, Area 10 contest.

Kiara Cohill led the Yellow Jackets (1-0 overall, 1-0 in Class 2A, Area 10) with 22 points. Cohill recorded seven steals.

Pamala Mann added 17 points and a team-high 16 rebounds. Brooklyn Jones chipped in 19 points.

BOYS

Thompson wins season opener

The Thompson High School boys’ basketball team defeated visiting McAdory 75-72 in its season opener Nov. 16.

Demarcus Threatt led the Warriors (1-0) with 17 points. Threatt also recorded six steals.

Jaylon Jones chipped in 15 points. Elisha Neville and Ryan Spence scored 10 points each. Neville grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

The Warriors hit nine 3-point field goals in their season-opening victory.

Oak Mountain defeats Shades Valley

Oak Mountain defeated Shades Valley 57-44 in boy’ basketball action Nov. 16.

Garrett Cosgrove led the Eagles (2-0) with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Colton McGriff added 15 points and five boards. Taylor Kral dished out eight assists.

Briarwood wins season opener

Briarwood Christian School opened its season with a 50-43 win on the road at Altamont in boys’ basketball action Nov. 16.

Justin Bice led the Lions (1-0) with 16 points.

Jason Laatsch added 12 points. Luke Collins chipped in 11 points.

Vincent defeats Victory Christian in season opener

Anterio Rogers led five Vincent players in double figures scoring in the Yellow Jackets’ 66-30 win in a Class 2A, Area 10 contest on the road at Victory Christian School in boys’ basketball action Nov. 16.

Rogers led Vincent (1-0 overall, 1-0 in Class 2A, Area 10) with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Rogers also recorded a team-high 11 steals and three assists.

Vincent finished with 38 steals in the victory.

Keyon Wallace added 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Ben McKinney chipped in 12 points, four rebounds and five steals.

Bruce Hamilton and Demauntey Johnson added 11 points each. Hamilton grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Hope Christian wins season opener

The Hope Christian School boys’ basketball team picked up a 34-28 win over The Rock in its season opener Nov. 16.

Pete Thomason led the Eagles (1-0) with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Terrance Moore added eight points and a team-high six steals. Cameron Costa chipped in six points.

Caleb Douglas grabbed seven boards.
