Calera High School senior quarterback Brandon Wells threw five touchdown passes to lead the Eagles to a 46-14 win over Dallas County in their final regular season game Oct. 29.
Wells completed 13-of-21 passes for 158 yards and five touchdowns without an interception in the victory. He also rushed for 40 yards on five carries.
Backup quarterback Zack Reneau completed 5-of-10 passes for 32 yards, including a touchdown pass to Ronnie Clark.
Clark led the Eagles (6-4) with 86 receiving yards and three touchdowns on six catches. Jeremy Hyde added four catches for 64 yards and three scores.
Te’Darius King rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
King scored the first touchdown in the game with his 12-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter.
Wells threw touchdown passes of 7 yards and 18 yards to Clark and connected with Hyde for a 2-yard touchdown to help Calera jump out to a 25-6 lead after the first quarter.
Wells threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Hyde in the second quarter to push the lead to 31-6 heading into the locker room at halftime.
Wells threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Hyde and Reneau found Clark open for a 15-yard touchdown in the third quarter to cap the scoring for the Eagles.
Calera finished with 378 yards of total offense in the victory.
Kevin Johnson led the Eagles with nine tackles. Sheldon Nixon and Titus Adams recorded five tackles each. Adams and Money Lyles each recorded an interception.
Calera will travel to Bibb County in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 4A playoffs Nov. 5.
