Six football teams advance to state playoffs

Six high school football teams from Shelby County will be playing in the postseason.
Five teams will be playing in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs Nov. 5.
One school will host a first-round game in the Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A playoffs Nov. 5.
Briarwood Christian School leads the group of AHSAA teams entering the playoffs. The Lions (8-1) finished undefeated in Class 5A, Region 5 competition for the second year in a row to claim its second consecutive region title.
Briarwood, which ends the regular season at home Oct. 28 against Anniston, will host Mortimer Jordan in the first round of the AHSAA Class 5A playoffs Nov. 5.
Chelsea, which finished second in AHSAA Class 5A, Region 5, will host Cullman in a first-round matchup in the Class 5A playoffs Nov. 5.
The Hornets (7-2) will close out regular season play Oct. 28 at home against Oak Grove.
Spain Park (5-4) ended Class 6A, Region 6 play with three region wins in a row after an 0-2 start to the season to claim third place in region standings.
The Jaguars will travel to Tuscaloosa County in the first round of the AHSAA Class 6A playoffs Nov. 5. Spain Park caps regular season play Oct. 29 on the road at Clay-Chalkville.
Calera clinched a spot in the AHSAA Class 4A playoffs following a 35-0 win over Childersburg on senior night. The Eagles (5-4) claimed the fourth playoff spot in Class 4A, Region 3 and will travel to Bibb County in the first round of the playoffs Nov. 5.
Calera closes regular season play on the road Oct. 29 at Dallas County.
Vincent, which dropped its final two Class 2A, Region 4 contests, finished third in region standings. The Yellow Jackets (5-4) will travel to Houston Academy in the first round of the AHSAA Class 2A playoffs.
Vincent wraps up its regular season Oct. 28 on the road at Winterboro.
Coosa Valley Academy enters the postseason as the AISA Class 1A, Region 2 champions. The Rebels (8-1) will host Chambers Academy in the first round of the AISA Class 1A playoffs Nov. 5.
Coosa Valley closes the regular season Oct. 29 at home against undefeated Crenshaw Christian.
