AAUW host literature talk

On Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m. in Carmichael Library, on the University of Montevallo campus, the Montevallo Branch of AAUW and Carmichael Library will host a program on “Issues in Literature for Children and Young Adults.”
Pat Scales, UM graduate, prominent member of the Association of Library Services for Children, and Chair of the prestigious Caldecott Committee in 2003, will discuss “Censorship and the Young Person’s Right to Read.” Mary Beth Rodgers, school librarian; Loretta Cobb, author and educator; and Barbara Belisle, author, educator, and librarian; will comment on books such as The Boy with the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, The Red Hills of Alabama by Barbara Belisle and Tales from the Heart of Haiti by Patti Marxsen. Jane Clayton, educator and member of the Parnell Library Board, will moderate the discussion. The public is welcome to attend.
