Montevallo, Indian Springs advance in volleyball playoffs

The Montevallo High School and Indian Springs School volleyball teams each advanced to the sub-state round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 3A playoffs following the Class 3A, Region B tournament Oct. 16 at Marbury High School.
Montevallo (22-6) will host T.R. Miller in a Class 3A sub-state match Oct. 21. Indian Springs (16-11) will travel to Trinity Presbyterian School in a Class 3A sub-state match Oct. 21.
The Bulldogs swept host Marbury 25-11, 25-19, 25-18 in the championship match of the Class 3A, Region B tournament.
Mallory Anderson led Montevallo with 13 kills, 17 digs and four service aces in the title match.
Amber Cardwell added 10 kills and six blocks. Kathryn Ray chipped in a team-high 10 assists.
Montevallo defeated Indian Springs 25-16, 25-13, 24-26, 25-9 in the semifinals to seal home-court advantage in the sub-state round of the playoffs.
Cardwell led Montevallo with 21 kills and six blocks in the semifinals.
Anderson added nine kills, 23 digs and five service aces. Ray recorded 14 assists.
The Bulldogs topped Central-Coosa 25-4, 25-10, 25-21 in the quarterfinals to seal a spot in the sub-state round of the playoffs.
Cardwell led Montevallo with 21 kills in the quarterfinal match.
Anderson chipped in 14 kills and four service aces. Ray finished with 16 assists.
Indian Springs defeated Sipsey Valley 25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 25-11 in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A, Region B tournament to seal a spot in the sub-state round of the playoffs. Indian Springs defeated Greensboro 25-19, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23 in the consolation match at the region tournament.
Indian Springs senior Andrea Mayo was named to the all-tournament team. Mayo led Indian Springs with 45 kills, 52 digs and 10 service aces in the tournament.
Senior Kendra Bridgham recorded a team-high 61 assists to go along with 22 digs and eight service aces in the tournament. Sophomore Yuka Sanui registered a team-high 67 digs in the tournament.
