High school volleyball roundup: Calera sweeps West Blocton

The Calera High School volleyball team swept West Blocton 25-19, 25-9, 25-6 in high school volleyball action Sept. 16.
A’Kia Harris led the Eagles with 13 kills.
La’Jacqueline Morgan and Tierra Robinson added five kills each. Morgan also recorded a team-high nine service aces.
Kellie Rasmussen added six service aces.
Indian Springs tops Altamont
Andrea Mayo led Indian Springs with 13 kills and 22 digs in a 21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 win over Altamont.
Lauren Plouff recorded a team-high 29 assists and added 19 digs and two service aces.
Kingwood defeats East Memorial
Casey Whitmer and Katie McElroy led the Lions with seven kills each in a 25-19, 25-11, 23-25, 25-13 win over East Memorial.
Kingwood improved to 13-6 overall and 4-1 in Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 2A, Region 2 play with the victory.
McElroy added six digs. Karley Chamblee finished with 12 assists and 13 service aces.
Oak Mountain tops Vestavia Hills
Samantha Skinner led the Eagles with 18 kills in a 25-20, 25-18, 15-25, 25-18 win over Vestavia Hills.
Emily Cosgrove added 12 kills. Chelsea Payne and Sara Goodwin added seven kills each.
Hannah Beach led Oak Mountain with 14 digs. Goodwin and Kierson McGriff added 11 digs each. Skinner recorded 10 digs.
Chelsea Payne led the Eagles with 31 assists.
Pelham picks up win at Hoover
Dana Allen led the Panthers with 17 kills in a 26-28, 25-19, 25-23, 25-17 win over Hoover.
Pelham improved to 18-13 overall and 2-2 in Class 6A, Area 10 play with the victory.
Porsha Tolbert added 16 kills. Julie Bui recorded a team-high 37 digs.
Sydney Days finished with 33 assists. Elsa Sims finished with four service aces.
Thompson splits matches
Thompson picked up a 25-23, 25-22 win over Parkway Christian and dropped a match 22-25, 19-25 against host Shades Mountain Christian.
Jade Douglas led the Warriors with six kills against Parkway Christian. Haley Davenport added five kills.
Hailey Schatz led Thompson with nine digs. Sonia Acosta recorded a team-high 12 assists and chipped in four digs.
Schatz led the Warriors with six kills and eight digs in the loss to Shades Mountain. Douglas and Davenport added four kills each.
Kasie Holcombe chipped in six digs. Acosta finished with 12 assists.
Montevallo sweeps Hale County
Amber Cardwell led the Bulldogs with 14 kills in a 25-6, 25-18, 25-13 win over Hale County.
Mallory Anderson added 11 kills. Kathryn Ray recorded a team-high seven service aces and 11 assists.
McKenna Anderson and Cardwell registered 10 digs each. Mallory Anderson and Mary Ann Lee finished with eight digs each.
Vincent sweeps Victory Christian
Randee Isbell led the Yellow Jackets with 16 kills in a 25-18, 25-16, 25-16 sweep of Victory Christian.
Jessica Posey added 11 kills and Michele Brasher chipped in 10 kills.
Amber Shaw led Vincent with 10 service aces and 15 digs. Courtney Holston added eight aces.
Letha Burns and Posey recorded seven digs each. Burns added six assists.
Briarwood falls to Guntersville
Sara Kate Bracewell and Kate Carter led the Lions with nine kills each in a 25-17, 11-25, 10-25, 18-25 loss to Guntersville.
Bracewell recorded nine digs and Carter finished with seven digs.
Logan Nasworthy led Briarwood with four service aces.
Evangel Christian sweeps First Assembly
Elizabeth Ragland led the Lightning with eight kills in a 25-8, 25-14, 25-16 sweep of First Assembly Christian.
Erica Williams added four kills.
Rainey Ketcham tallied four service aces. Kate Foster led Evangel (10-0) with nine assists. Mariah Lawrence added eight assists.
Hope Christian drops match with New Life
Kelsey Thompson and Teenie Donlon led the Eagles with nine kills each in a 18-25, 25-21, 21-25, 26-24, 8-15 loss to New Life Christian.
Melinda Mahan led Hope with four service aces and finished with six assists. Somer Howe also recorded six assists.
