Vincent (1-1, 1-0 in Class 2A, Region 4) mixed a bruising running game with a solid air attack to cruise to a 50-0 region win at Central-Hayneville Sept. 3.
Tailback Rodney Groce was the main workhorse for the Yellow Jackets, as the freshman carried the ball 12 times for 99 yards and one touchdown.
Senior Ben McKinney added 31 yards on four carries and found the end zone twice in the first quarter against the Lions, who fell to 0-2 and 0-1 in Class 2A, Region 4 play.
The three-headed running back monster of Groce, McKinney and Demetrius Lilly combined to churn out 178 yards.
Quarterback Demonte Johnson did his best not to get lost in the shuffle. The sophomore completed 4-of-5 passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
Johnson found Jace Greene for a 19-yard scoring strike and Ryan Kelow from 45 yards out for second-quarter touchdowns.
Defensive back Judd Moore had a 63-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second frame to put the finishing touches on the Yellow Jackets’ first-half scoring and give Vincent a 28-0 lead at the half.
Vincent will host Billingsley Sept. 10 in another region game. Meanwhile, the Lions will try to notch their first win of the season next week at R.C. Hatch.
