The Harpersville Police Department and Shelby County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death of 2–year–old Drayden McGowan of Harpersville, according to a release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
The release said Shelby County 911 received a call of an unresponsive child at a residence in the 200 block of Bridle Trail around 1:40 p.m. Aug. 28.
When the Harpersville Police and Fire Department officials arrived at the home they discovered a non–responsive McGowan and immediately began CPR. The child was transported to Coosa Valley Medical Center via ambulance where he was pronounced dead, the release said.
Harpersville Police Chief David Latimer expressed his condolences to the McGowan’s family.
“These situations are the worst any of us face and I want the family to know that the Harpersville Police Department will do everything to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding Drayden’s death,” Latimer said in the release.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death is on-going with assistance from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. The Alabama Department of Forensic Science plans to perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner in which the child died.
