The Department of Defense announced July 26 that Army Pfc. Andrew L. Hand, 25, of Enterprise, Ala. died July 24 at Qalat, Afghanistan.

Hand is the son of Kenneth Hand, a Spain Park High School football offensive assistant coach.

According to the Department of Defense, Hand and three other soldiers were killed when insurgents attacked their military vehicle with an improvised explosive device.

They were assigned to 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, 17th Fires Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
