The Chelsea Swarm 9-and-under All-Star team entered the championship game of the Dizzy Dean State tournament with a ton of familiarity with its opponent.
The Swarm had played the Oak Mountain All-Stars in the championship game of its Invitational a few weeks earlier, falling 11-10.
The Swarm met Oak Mountain three times during the course of the State tournament and won all three games, including a 9-6 victory in the championship game, to capture the State title July 7 in Athens.
Both teams will now play in the 2010 Dizzy Dean World Series in Tupelo, Miss.
“They all played great,” said Chelsea coach Eddie Travelstead. “We hit the ball well. We made some great plays defensively and we stayed consistent the whole tournament.”
The Chelsea 9-and-under All-Stars include Kyle Travelstead, Brayton Lowery, Emmitt Hudspeath, Alex Foshee, Stephen Fant, Sammy Shepherd, Jacob Tinnell, Austin Colyer, Marcus Moody, Trent Howard and Will Peacock. The team is coached by Travelstead, Johnny Howard, Richard Tinnell and Sam Shepherd.
