Paula Davis, wife of slain Pelham Police officer Philip Davis, has been named as an honorary crew chief for Kevin Conway’s No. 38 Ford Fusion in the upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Aaron’s 499 April 25 at Talladega Superspeedway.
As part of the ExtenZe Local Hero program, Davis was selected from a list of many nominations.
For being selected, Davis will sit atop the ExtenZe pit box with Crew Chief Pete Sospenzo, she’ll receive a tour of the paddock area, get to attend the driver’s meeting prior to the race and will receive $1,000.
Davis’ husband was shot and killed Dec. 3 following a traffic stop on Interstate 65.
“Paula is a dedicated mother and strong woman dealing with the unimaginable,” said Conway, who is the leading Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate. “Her family and friends, as well as the Pelham Police Department and people in the community, have all joined together to provide support. When ExtenZe Racing learned of her story ,we thought it would be nice to pitch in and honor her by providing a fun, one-of-a-kind experience at Talladega Superspeedway.”
