Spain Park High School girls’ golf coach Kelly Holland has been named the 2009 Coach of the Year in the state of Alabama by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Holland received word of the new accolade last week after being nominated by a representative of the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

“I was so honored and appreciative of the recognition,” Holland said.

Holland, now in her seventh year at Spain Park, led last year’s team to the 2009 AHSAA Class 6A championship. The Jaguars return every member of the Class 6A championship team in 2010.

“We are excited about the possibilities before us this year,” Holland said.

Practice for the 2010 season begins Feb.1 The Jaguars’ first tournament of the season is scheduled for Feb. 25.
