Alabaster’s seniors will have a chance to dance, mingle and romance Feb. 13 during the city’s annual Senior Valentine’s Day Dance.

The Alabaster Parks and Recreation Department will hold the dance at the Thompson Middle School cafeteria, which will open at 5:30 p.m.

Dinner will begin at 6 p.m., and dancing will run from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. in front of a live band.

During the free event, Parks and Recreation representatives will be giving out “lots of door prizes,” according to Alicia Walters, the department’s senior and therapeutic manager.

“Everyone enjoys the night, and it gives them an opportunity to see old friends or make new ones,” Walters said.

More than 150 people attended last year’s Valentine’s Day dance, and recreation officials are planning for a comparable crowd this year.

Though the dance is free, event organizers are urging those interested in attending to make reservations by calling the Parks and Recreation Department before Feb. 5 at 664-6840.
