Shelby County schools and the University of Montevallo will be closed Jan. 7, as meteorologists are forecasting severe winter weather throughout the county.

Kingwood Christian School in Alabaster will close at noon and Coosa Valley Academy in Harpersville and Cornerstone Christian School in Columbiana will be closed Jan. 7.

Shelby County Schools’ After School Care Program and all Thursday night extracurricular activities have been canceled.

School officials said they will evaluate weather conditions Thursday and determine if schools will be open Jan. 8.

District and University of Montevallo officials will monitor weather throughout the day Jan. 7, and will announce any changes to the Jan. 8, according to district and university officials.

Shelby County Schools will post updates related to Jan. 8 school attendance and extracurricular events on its Web site, Shelbyed.k12.al.us.
