The Winn Dixie grocery store on County Road 17 in Helena was robbed at gunpoint Monday night, according to Helena Police Capt. Tim Carter.
The suspect, a black male approximately 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds, entered the store around 9:45 p.m., produced a handgun and forced a cashier to take an undetermined amount of money from the safe.
The suspect then fled on a motorcycle and is still at large. No one was physically injured during the robbery.
Carter said surveillance photos and other information about the suspect cannot be released yet because “that could jeopardize our investigation.”
He said the suspect was well-disguised, so it wasn’t possible to discern identifying features other than his height, weight and skin color.
Carter said Helena citizens need to be aware of their surroundings at all times and take precautions to protect themselves and their property.
“We just have to be vigilant of our surroundings,” he said.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Chris Rollan at the Helena Police Department at 663-6499.
