Local named honorary chair for arthritis event

John Shank, CPA, and founding shareholder of Barfield, Murphy, Shank and Smith accounting firm was recently asked to serve as the 2009 Honorary Corporate Chair for the Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Run/Walk.
Barfield, Murphy, Shank and Smith has actively participated in the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis since 2003, winning the largest corporate team in 2007 and 2008.
On behalf of the 1.2 million adults in Alabama with arthritis, plus an estimated 4,500 children, Barfield Murphy invites the Birmingham community to join in the fight to control, cure and prevent the devastating effects of arthritis.
The 21st-annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis will be Saturday, Dec. 5 at Underwood Park near St. Vincent’s Hospital.
The Arthritis Foundation is the leading health organization, and largest private non-profit contributor to arthritis research, addressing the needs of some 46 million Americans living with arthritis, one of the nation’s leading causes of disability.
