Oak Mountain running back Ross Ware entered the 2009 season under the radar.
Ware can’t hide any longer after rushing for 125 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries Friday night as he led the Eagles to a 14-0 win over Gardendale at Heardmont Park.
Ware’s 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter helped Oak Mountain improve to 2-1 in Class 6A, Region 6.
“Ross has had a spectacular run,” said first-year Oak Mountain head coach Jeff Harris.
Quarterback Paul Angel found tight end Davis Dudchock for a 30-yard touchdown in the second quarter for the Eagles’ other touchdown in the win.
Oak Mountain held Gardendale to 12 yards rushing on a muddy field at Heardmont Park.
“It was ugly,” Harris said. “Ross was pretty phenomenal under the field conditions.”
Harris also gave credit to the offensive line, which he said is improving each week.
“They paved the way for Ross,” Harris said.
