Laura Raye Hendrix, an Oak Mountain High School senior, was one of 15 students competitively selected from the southeastern states to attend a week-long journalism workshop at Auburn University.

For her outstanding performance at the workshop, Hendrix was awarded one of the five $1,000 scholarships given by the Mobile Press-Register.

She plans to apply the scholarship toward her freshman year at Auburn, with anticipated concentration in journalism and history.
