Fair to offer fun, rides and music

Where can you have a great evening of entertainment including music and carnival rides, support local schools and charity groups and make lifelong memories all for just $10?
Nowhere, other than the 60th Annual Shelby County Fair which starts very soon, running Sept. 21-26. The rides, contests, and great entertainment are something to look forward to each year, and organizers have even more planned for the fair at the Shelby County Exhibition Center in Columbiana.
The Columbiana Kiwanis Club, with help from the Chelsea Kiwanis club and countless other volunteers, have worked for months to make your time at the fair enjoyable.
These volunteers are motivated by the opportunity to raise money for school and charity groups throughout the county.
From Scout troops to schools and libraries, money raised during the fair touches the lives of people throughout the county and it stays right here at home.
More than $25,000 was raised at last year’s fair alone.
And as for fun, this year’s fair promises to be even bigger than ever. A few highlights of what is planned for this year’s fair:
-Carnival rides will be running, starting at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. Best of all, rides are free with your $10 paid admission.
-Organizers have a great variety of musical acts planned for every day of the fair. Elvis Night will be September 25th from 7-10 p.m. and Nashville recording artist Tina Adair will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 26.
-4-H animal shows will be held throughout the week.
-Contests ranging from art to canned goods are also planned for the fair. You still have time to get ready to participate and, perhaps take home a blue ribbon.
And remember, when you are reaching to buy a ticket to this year’s fair, you are doing more than just paying your way into one of the county’s best events, you are helping make a difference in our community one admission price at a time.
See you at the fair!
