A new grocery store is coming to Pelham, as Aldi Food Market has announced it is opening its sixth Birmingham-area location near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Valleydale Road.
“We’re going into areas we haven’t been before,” said Heather Tarczan, Aldi spokesperson.
Tarczan also said Pelham residents will soon see it’s the quality Aldi offers that will bring customers back time and time again.
“The prices might bring them into the store, but the quality brings them back,” Tarczan said.
Aldi, based in Batavia, Ill., is a discount chain offering low prices on limited name and store brands.
While the store saves consumers money on its products, some typical grocery store services are not included at Aldi.
Grocery bags at Aldi are not free, yet consumers can bring their own bags or purchase reusable bags from the store.
Grocery carts can also be rented for a quarter, and the quarter is refunded once the cart is returned.
According to The Shelby Report, a supermarket trade publication, Aldi has more than 1,000 locations in 29 states.
Last year, the company opened 100 stores and plans on opening 75 this year.
Aldi currently has Alabama markets in Bessemer, Homewood, Trussville, Roebuck, Crestwood Boulevard, Gadsden, Decatur and Florence.
