U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Vestavia Hills) announced Monday he has obtained $150,000 in a House bill for renovations to a female dormitory at the University of Montevallo.
Bachus secured funds for Main Hall, UM’s oldest and largest dormitory. Constructed in 1897, the building has three sections and houses nearly 285 students.
“Main Hall is a signature building on the university campus and an important part of the architectural history of the town of Montevallo,” Bachus said. “The renovations will preserve Main Hall’s grand history, but also continue to keep it in good condition for the many students and university employees who use it each year.”
UM President Philip Williams said Bachus’ support is a much-needed boost in the midst of a challenging economic climate.
“We greatly appreciate his understanding of the importance of this historic treasure, not only to the greater University of Montevallo community, but to all citizens of the state of Alabama,” Williams said.
