Hoover to hold public auction for 170 items

The city of Hoover is selling roughly 170 items, including exercise bikes, vehicles, new iPods and Xbox 360 video game consoles, to the highest bidders during a public auction June 26.
The auction will be held at the Hoover Public Safety Center on Valleydale Road at 10:07 a.m.
City purchasing specialist Barbara Janchus said some items are departmental items from the city that are being replaced. Other items are stolen goods that were recovered and could not be returned to the owners.
“As surplus items accumulate, if other departments cannot use them, we try to keep them from piling up in the warehouse,” she said in an e-mail.
The money made from the auction will be deposited in the city’s general fund, save for items awarded through the drug enforcement fund, Janchus said. Only one vehicle in this auction fits that description.
Hoover holds public auctions twice a year.
Janchus said the city would make sure every item is sold. Buyers must take all items in their lots. A representative from The Foundry charity will be present to take possession of any unwanted items.
